Kids Learning how to Cook with Chef Alex

January 19th, 2014 Posted by Food News 0 thoughts on “Kids Learning how to Cook with Chef Alex”

in Interviews With Alaskans Featured on

Chef Alex from Ready Made DinnersIn a world where Growing Number of Americans Don’t Have The Time or Know How to Cook as a New Survey Reveals 53% of adults don’t believe they can cook as well as their mothers or grandmothers and 57% of young adults are eating fast food at least once a week, Chef Alex Marqueda is cooking up a plan to defy the odds.   The ambitious owner of Ready Made Dinners is a Self

-taught chef whose culinary education began with his grandmother in Mexico City and then continue in the Restaurant Industry working with National Chains and working with International Chefs as a Corporate Trainer. Now, that experience has turned into a delicious career at Ready Made Dinners located at 2476 E.Tudor Road, Anchorage AK.  He opened the business earlier this year to provide freshly prepared healthy meals that busy families can pick up and cook at home.

But this Anchorage Restaurant/Cafe offers more than the promise of convenience and healthy meals.  Cooking skills are so important to Chef Alex that he started a program called Kids Learning to Cook where he offers small group classes on basic food preparation and nutrition to kids between the ages of six and eighteen.

“Food makes people connect and families need a lot of that,” said Chef Alex.  “There’s so much technology.  Ten years ago you would never see a kid with a cell phone because they couldn’t even afford it.  Nowadays you see a four year old who knows how to use an iPod better than his parents, but can he make a sandwich?  Probably not.  So I think that teaching kids how to cook goes beyond just making a meal.  It’s teaching them how to comunicate through food.”

The classes offer a fun and creative opportunity to experiment with new foods and flavors, but most kids are used to fast food and skeptical of anything that looks unfamiliar.  In order to get them interested in the recipes he begins each session with samples of the meal they will make and discussions about the culture it originated in.

“When they taste something that is healthy for them they reject it because their taste buds are not used to that.  So we don’t tell them what’s in it first.  We let them taste it first, they love it! and then we teach them how you make it.  So it’s a little bit of reverse psychology.”

Chef Alex provides a wide variety of ingredients to experiment with and each child has the freedom to build on basic recipes and find out what they like.  By the time they’re done cooking the miniature chefs are thrilled to go home and show off their new skills.

“They love it because they can do it here and know that they’re probably not going to be allowed to do that at home.  And the parents love that there is a place where they’ll be able to do that and they won’t have to clean up.”

Ready Made Dinners Using 3D Food Printers

January 15th, 2014 Posted by Food News 0 thoughts on “Ready Made Dinners Using 3D Food Printers”

"Ready Made Dinners, Now using 3D Food Printers to create your Meals"

Can you imagine if one day, this was written on the first page of the Anchorage Daily News?

Very unlikely, at least that’s what Chef Alex has recently posted – 3D Food printer

“Is interesting, Makers of 3D food printers are claiming that this technology will end world hunger and food waste. As noble as this idea might be, the truth is… there is plenty of food in the planet to end world hunger. If we take away human greed, then everyone in this planet would have plenty to eat. God has created a perfect system where Mother Nature provides enough food for 3 times the planet population. Another concern I would have with this technology is, the nutrients provided with 3D food and a new generation that does not know how to cook and there for not been able to appreciate a Delicious Meal, you take away the process of making a meal and you soon end up with a lazy generation, eating cyber space food.

That’s why I think Ready Made Dinners is really the new way of cooking, is like having your own private chef, you are still in charge of the cooking process, we just take away the tedious work of prepping a meal, same as with the 3D Food Printer which by the way you still have to cook the food.

For people that like the Idea of just pushing a button and having a meal ready, they would like Ready Made Dinners Ordering Process, they can place an order through our website and with the click of a button a Healthy Delicious Meal will be Ready, made with real ingredients, no preservatives, no added colorings or chemicals and we use as much Organic products as possible. In the future We might look at 3D Printers to form chocolate or something similar, but for your Dinners you can alway count, that there will be a real chef preparing your meals.

At Ready Made Dinners, It’s like having your own private chef ” – Chef Alex
